She has 80+ million followers now, and she started her account in June 2019. She wasn\u2019t known prior to this and didn\u2019t have any unfair advantages.<\/li>\n<li>Billion-dollar companies are created at a faster and faster rate. ForHims.com is a telehealth company that\u2019s valued at over a billion dollars. It was founded in 2017.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I loved reverse engineering success, and I\u2019ve come to the conclusion that we\u2019re living in the <strong>age of leverage<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Here\u2019s the truth:<\/strong> If you find and ride the right \u201cwave\u201d, then you can achieve astronomical growth <u>without<\/u> having to grind it out for years.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s everywhere.<\/p>\n<p>When I look back on the history of affiliate marketing, so many super-affiliates can credit their success to riding the right wave.<\/p>\n<p>Whether it was utilizing traffic sources before they became too competitive, or the ability to create angles that reflect the current pain points in the customer\u2019s mind.<\/p>\n<p>Hard work was involved of course, but we\u2019ve underestimated how important timing can be.<\/p>\n<p>So, how do we spot these \u201cwaves\u201d before they happen?<\/p>\n<p><strong>The key is to understand market inflection points and their effects.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Inflection points are key events which lead to significant changes, or \u201cdisruptions\u201d as people love to call it.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ll list out some inflection points, and I want you to think about how what kind of businesses took advantage of them.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Everyone starts using a smartphone, and these smartphones have GPS tracking enabled.<\/li>\n<li>Amazon.com allows 3rd parties to sell on its website. Now everyone can get easy access to Amazon\u2019s massive audience.<\/li>\n<li>9\/11 causes the TSA to create new regulations. Now everyone needs to take off their jacket, shoes, and laptop.<\/li>\n<li>COVID-19 changes the world. Some schools and universities implement virtual learning. Everyone\u2019s required to wear a masks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As marketers, we\u2019re always trying to figure out what\u2019s \u201ctrending\u201d or \u201cwhat\u2019s hot\u201d, right?<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ll use tools such as <a href=\"https:\/\/adspy.com\/\">AdSpy<\/a> to scout the competition on Facebook, or we\u2019ll see what keywords are hot on <a href=\"https:\/\/trends.google.com\/trends\/\">Google Trends<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The problem is you\u2019re always going to be a few steps behind. Instead of trying to figure out what\u2019s hot now, why not train yourself to see what\u2019s <em>going<\/em> to be hot?<\/p>\n<p>The easiest way to do this is through a market inflection framework. I\u2019ll show you different types of market inflections and share stories of how different companies capitalized on them.<\/p>\n<p>After reading this article, you\u2019ll be able to spot opportunities everywhere.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h.jzwfw2yblkh4\">The 6 Types of Market Inflections<\/h2>\n<p>I\u2019ve organized market inflections into six different categories and provided different examples.<\/p>\n<p>You should go through each point and think about what companies took advantage of market inflections.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"h.k2kfv8q4m36u\">1. Accessibility Inflection<\/h3>\n<p>I can have a new e-commerce brand up and running within a few hours in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>The website would be up, I\u2019d have access to inventory, and I\u2019d be able to process your credit card.<\/p>\n<p>Now imagine if this was <strong>1998<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>I would\u2019ve had to invest thousands of dollars to hire people to build the technology. And I would\u2019ve suffered brain damage trying to delegate tasks via AOL Instant Messenger.<\/p>\n<p>If third-party payment processors are this shitty in 2020, I can\u2019t imagine what kind of scumbags were around in the \u201990s.<\/p>\n<p>What changed?<\/p>\n<p>Well, e-commerce is now more accessible because of different tools.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<a class=\"thirstylink\" target=\"_blank\" title=\"Shopify\" href=\"https:\/\/charlesngo.com\/go\/shopify\/\" data-shortcode=\"true\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Shopify<\/a> \u2013 Build the store<\/li>\n<li>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/stripe.com\/\">Stripe<\/a> \u2013 Process payments<\/li>\n<li>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.alibaba.com\/\">Alibaba<\/a> \u2013 Finding product and manufacturing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>What other industries have boomed because the barriers to entry have lowered?<\/p>\n<p>I can\u2019t imagine what a pain in the ass it must have been to create a monthly subscription box a decade ago. Now <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cratejoy.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cratejoy<\/a>\u00a0has made it simple for anyone to enter that industry.<\/p>\n<p>Subscription-based newsletters have been around for <strong>decades<\/strong>. Now it feels like everyone\u2019s launching a paid newsletter because of <a href=\"https:\/\/substack.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SubStack<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>These technologies don\u2019t create new markets from scratch. But they do lower the barriers and increase the number of players in the game.<\/p>\n<p>Accessibility also means democratization. If I want to be a rapper I can drop my next mixtape on <a href=\"https:\/\/soundcloud.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SoundCloud<\/a>. (But I\u2019m not a rapper.)<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re funny, you can upload videos on YouTube with your phone. We don\u2019t need permission anymore.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s one thing I\u2019ve learned about business, if something becomes too accessible then sooner or later it\u2019s going to feel too \u201c<strong>saturated.<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>We tend to run away from difficulty or pain. We bitch that something is \u201ctoo hard\u201d or takes too much time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>But that friction and headache is what keeps the competition away<\/strong>. Societal Shift Inflection<\/h3>\n<p>Ten years ago I had no idea what \u201cgluten\u201d was.<\/p>\n<p>Now every single grocery store has many \u201cGluten-free\u201d bread and cookies to accommodate the Karens.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re always adopting new beliefs as a society. Remember when doctors were promoting cigarettes as being healthy back in the 1950\u2019s? Yeahhh\u2026.<\/p>\n<p>So what society shifts are happening right now?<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\n<strong>Well, the <\/strong><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blacklivesmatter.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Black Lives Matter<\/a><\/strong><strong>\u00a0movement is going on.<\/strong>\u00a0What\u2019s an effect because of that?<\/li>\n<li>\n<strong>More companies want diversity in their workforce.<\/strong>\u00a0OK, what are some solutions?<\/li>\n<li>\n<strong>There will be a demand for tools<\/strong>\u00a0to help both of these. For example, diversity recruiting software to analyze your existing workforce. Or transparency software to report racial discrimination.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>COVID-19 is unleashing societal shift after societal shift. Seriously\u2013it\u2019s like we had two decades worth of them in one year.<\/p>\n<p>What are some societal shifts happening now?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>People want larger homes<\/li>\n<li>More and more companies are becoming remote<\/li>\n<li>Everyone\u2019s wearing face masks.<\/li>\n<li>Children are doing virtual learning<\/li>\n<li>Survival Prep<\/li>\n<li>Hygiene<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Think:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>What societal shifts are happening right now?<\/li>\n<li>What problems are being created because of those?<\/li>\n<li>What are some solutions?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Here\u2019s a <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/p8wJ7VxXsRI\">video<\/a> I made a few months ago where I brainstormed Pandemic Business Ideas.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<h3>3. Platform Inflection<\/h3>\n<p>\u201c<em>A platform is a business model that creates value by facilitating exchanges between two or more groups, usually consumers and producers<\/em>\u201d \u2013 Alex Moazed, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/B017RC8CBC\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Modern Monopolies<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Platforms are where <strong>billions <\/strong>are made.<\/p>\n<p>Some platforms that you might\u2019ve heard of: The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.apple.com\/ios\/app-store\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Apple App Store<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airbnb.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Airbnb<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/amazon.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Amazon<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wayfair.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Wayfair<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uber.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Uber<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.doordash.com\/en-US\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Doordash<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/facebook.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Facebook<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.udemy.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Udemy<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/youtube.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">YouTube<\/a>, etc.<\/p>\n<p>The platforms themselves are billion-dollar businesses. But each platform also hosts million-dollar businesses created on the platform itself.<\/p>\n<p><em>(Ok\u2026maybe the Uber Drivers and Doordash Delivery drivers aren\u2019t getting wealthy.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>But think about all the businesses built off of YouTube, Facebook, the Apple App store, and Amazon.<\/p>\n<p>A big takeaway here is <strong>timing<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s much harder now to build a YouTube audience than 10 years ago.<br \/>It\u2019s much harder now to build an Instagram audience than 10 years ago.<\/p>\n<p>Take a look and research what emerging platforms there are because there\u2019s always an advantage in being a first mover.<\/p>\n<p>When Facebook Pages was first opened, you could get massive organic reach. Now my posts probably reach around 20% of my Facebook fans.<\/p>\n<p>In the early days of Instagram, posts displayed chronologically. Anything you posted would be broadcasted to your followers. Now it\u2019s all based on an algorithm and it\u2019s hard to even reach the following that you built.<\/p>\n<p>Charli D\u2019amelio is talented and attractive. She would\u2019ve been successful if she did dancing videos on any platform.<\/p>\n<p>But she was able to become a huge celebrity in under a year because she spotted and rode a rising platform\u2013TikTok.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"h.c162yf9dzjfa\"><strong>4. Technology Inflection:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>How many companies have tried to be the \u201cUber of <u>Blank<\/u>?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>All these companies are taking advantage of a <strong>technology inflection<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>People adopted smartphones, and these devices came with GPS tracking technology.<\/p>\n<p>These inflections allowed new companies to be built utilizing these technologies.<\/p>\n<p>When people think about drones they imagine military drones or the kind that takes awkward videos of you on your balcony.<\/p>\n<p>There are now window cleaning drones. Amazon is working on delivering packages with drones. Disney is using drones to help in their light and firework shows.<\/p>\n<p>The technology that I\u2019m most excited about right now is augmented reality. There will be new billion-dollar companies created once Apple releases their Apple Glasses.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"h.e363gkndp3hb\">\n<strong>5.<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Rules and Regulations Inflection:<\/strong><br \/>\n<\/h3>\n<p>9\/11 happened.<\/p>\n<p>And because of that terrorist attack, new rules and regulations were passed. These new rules and regulations created new pain in the asses for us by forcing us to take off our shoes and laptops.<\/p>\n<p>A new business emerged from those new rules. Influencer Inflection<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>I remember being a part of a mastermind group a decade ago.<\/p>\n<p>We were a group of affiliate marketers, all 20-somethings. Besides talking about campaigns, we had one weird ritual every day.<\/p>\n<p>We liked to watch Oprah. It wasn\u2019t because we were interested in getting advice meant for middle-aged women.<\/p>\n<p>We watched her because she has big dick energy over middle-aged women.<\/p>\n<p>She could recommend anything and it\u2019d become an instant bestseller.<\/p>\n<p>So we kept our eyes glued to her show hoping that she\u2019d recommend something in regards to dieting.<\/p>\n<p>There are some people out there who have so much influence. They can create million-dollar industries from casual conversations.<\/p>\n<p>Some of these God Influencers Include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Kardashians<\/li>\n<li>Kanye West<\/li>\n<li>Oprah<\/li>\n<li>Joe Rogan<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If Kanye West were to start wearing a fanny pack every time he\u2019s out, I guarantee you there\u2019s going to be millions made from people starting fanny pack stores.<\/p>\n<p>These are the titans.
