{"id":1479,"date":"2022-01-14T16:38:44","date_gmt":"2022-01-14T16:38:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/salarydistribution.com\/machine-learning\/2022\/01\/14\/from-imagination-to-animation-how-an-omniverse-creator-makes-films-virtually\/"},"modified":"2022-01-14T16:38:44","modified_gmt":"2022-01-14T16:38:44","slug":"from-imagination-to-animation-how-an-omniverse-creator-makes-films-virtually","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/salarydistribution.com\/machine-learning\/2022\/01\/14\/from-imagination-to-animation-how-an-omniverse-creator-makes-films-virtually\/","title":{"rendered":"From Imagination to Animation, How an Omniverse Creator Makes Films Virtually"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-url=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/blog\/2022\/01\/14\/omniverse-creator-jae-solina\/\" data-title=\"From Imagination to Animation, How an Omniverse Creator Makes Films Virtually\" data-hashtags=\"\">\n<p><i>Editor\u2019s note: This post is one in a series that features individual creators and developers who use NVIDIA Omniverse to boost their artistic processes.<\/i><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_55080\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-55080\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/jae-solina-headshot.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/jae-solina-headshot-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"A headshot of Jae Solina\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\"><\/p>\n<p><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-55080\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jae Solina<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Growing up in the Philippines, award-winning filmmaker Jae Solina says he turned to movies for a reminder that the world was much larger than himself and his homeland.<\/p>\n<p>He started the popular YouTube channel <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/c\/Jsfilmz\/videos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">JSFILMZ<\/a> a decade ago as a way to share home videos he made for fun.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, he\u2019s expanded the channel to showcase his computer graphics-based movies, which have won the Best Animation and Best Super Short Film awards at the Las Vegas Independent Film Festival.<\/p>\n<p>He also posts <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=x9POZqGO5B0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">tutorials<\/a> for virtual filmmaking with tools, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/en-us\/omniverse\/creators\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NVIDIA Omniverse<\/a> \u2014 a physically accurate 3D design collaboration platform exclusively available with NVIDIA RTX GPUs and part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/en-us\/studio\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NVIDIA Studio<\/a> suite of creator tools.<\/p>\n<p>Making tutorials is a way of paying it forward for Solina, as he is self-taught, gaining his computer graphics skills from other artists\u2019 YouTube videos.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Solina now lives in Las Vegas with his wife and two kids, balancing filmmaking with part-time school and a full-time job.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe only thing stopping you from creating something is your effort and imagination,\u201d he said. \u201cThere are so many free tools like Blender or Omniverse that are readily available, enabling us to create what we want.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2><b>Virtual Film Production<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>Solina creates computer graphics-based animation films, which can usually take large amounts of time and money, he said. NVIDIA Omniverse eases this process.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith Omniverse, I don\u2019t have to wait a full week to render a 30-second animation,\u201d Solina said. \u201cThe rendering speed in Omniverse is superb and saves me a lot of time, which is important when balancing my filmmaking, non-creative work and family.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Solina uses an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 GPU, as well as Omniverse apps like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/en-us\/omniverse\/apps\/audio2face\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Audio2Face<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/en-us\/omniverse\/apps\/create\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Create<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/en-us\/omniverse\/apps\/machinima\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Machinima<\/a> to create his films virtually.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>He also uses <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/en-us\/omniverse\/#apps-connectors\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Omniverse Connectors<\/a> for 3D applications like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blender.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Blender<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.autodesk.com\/products\/maya\/overview?term=1-YEAR&amp;tab=subscription\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Autodesk Maya<\/a>, as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/developer.nvidia.com\/blog\/iclone-connector-adds-breakthrough-character-animation-workflow-to-nvidia-omniverse\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Reallusion\u2019s iClone and Character Creator<\/a>, with which he edits motion-capture data.<\/p>\n<p>As a solo filmmaker, Solina said his main challenge is finding virtual assets \u2014 like characters and environments \u2014 that are photorealistic enough to use for movies.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy process can definitely be a bit backwards, since the ideal method would be to write a script and then find the assets to make the story come alive,\u201d he said. \u201cBut when I\u2019m limited in my resources, I have to think of a storyline that fits a character or an environment I find.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>New <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/blog\/2022\/01\/04\/omniverse-available-free-to-creators\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">support for the Omniverse ecosystem<\/a> provided by 3D marketplaces and digital asset libraries helps solve this challenge \u2014 with thousands of Omniverse-ready assets for creators, all based on <a href=\"https:\/\/developer.nvidia.com\/usd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Universal Scene Description<\/a> format.<\/p>\n<p>Looking forward, Solina plans to create a short film entirely inside Omniverse.<\/p>\n<p><i>Explore the NVIDIA Omniverse <\/i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/nvidiaomniverse\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><i>Instagram<\/i><\/a><i>, <\/i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/en-us\/omniverse\/gallery-submissions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i>gallery<\/i><\/a><i>, <\/i><a href=\"https:\/\/forums.developer.nvidia.com\/c\/omniverse\/300\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i>forums<\/i><\/a><i> and <\/i><a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/@nvidiaomniverse\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><i>Medium channel<\/i><\/a><i>.
