Her hometown serves as the inspiration behind her extraordinary portrait, <i>Snake Witch<\/i>. This unique and provoking work is based on tribal black magic from Chinese folklore. Li drew and painted the piece, powered by a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/en-us\/geforce\/graphics-cards\/30-series\/\">GeForce RTX GPU<\/a> and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/en-us\/studio\/\">NVIDIA Studio<\/a> platform.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_56890\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-56890\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/itns-li-snake-witch-snake-detail-blog-1280w.png\"><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/itns-li-snake-witch-snake-detail-blog-1280w-672x459.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"672\" height=\"459\"><\/p>\n<p><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-56890\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Up close, viewers can feel the allure of the Snake Witch.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><i>Snake Witch <\/i>is a product of Li\u2019s fascination with black magic, or \u201cGu,\u201d where tribal witch doctors would gather toxic creatures, use their venom to make poison and practice the dark arts. \u201cI always thought the stories were fascinating, so I wanted to do a take,\u201d Li said. \u201cSnakes are more appealing to me, and it helps to create some interesting compositions.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_56893\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-56893\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/yangtian-li-snake-witch-process-gallery-1280w.png\"><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/yangtian-li-snake-witch-process-gallery-1280w-672x473.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"672\" height=\"473\"><\/p>\n<p><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-56893\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Li chooses to keep it simple before diving in on the details.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>After primarily working in 2D, Li moves to 3D to support her concept process. She adds, \u201chaving a high-end GPU really helps speed up the process when it comes to using Blender, Zbrush and so on.\u201d These speed-ups, she says, are particularly noticeable with GPU-accelerated rendering in Blender Cycles 3.0, achieving results that are <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/blog\/2021\/12\/13\/blender-omniverse\/\">over 5x faster<\/a> with a GeForce RTX laptop GPU compared to a MacBook Pro M1 Max or CPU alone.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>With the Snake Witch\u2019s character foundation in a good place, Li used the Liquify filter to subtly distort her subject\u2019s facial features.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/helpx.adobe.com\/photoshop\/using\/liquify-filter.html\">Liquify<\/a> is one of over 30 <a href=\"https:\/\/helpx.adobe.com\/photoshop\/kb\/photoshop-cc-gpu-card-faq.html\">GPU-accelerated features<\/a> in Adobe Photoshop, like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/en-us\/geforce\/news\/october-2020-nvidia-studio-driver\/\">AI-powered Neural Filters<\/a>, that help artists explore creative ideas and make complex adjustments in seconds.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Li uses adjustment layers in the coloring phase of her process, allowing for non-destructive edits while trying to achieve the correct color tone.<\/p>\n<p>If unsatisfied with an adjustment, Li can simply delete it while the original image remains intact.<\/p>\n<div class=\"simplePullQuote right\">\n<p>\u201cThe more life experiences you have, your understanding of the world evolves, and that will be reflected in your art.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Finally, Li adjusts lighting, using the Opacity feature to block light from right of the image, adding a modicum of realistic flair.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_56899\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-56899\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/yangtian-li-snake-witch-necklace-process-gallery-1280w.png\"><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/yangtian-li-snake-witch-necklace-process-gallery-1280w-672x184.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"672\" height=\"184\"><\/p>\n<p><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-56899\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The devil is in the details, or in this case, the Snake Witch.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Remaining in a productive flow state is critical for Li, as it is for many artists, and her GeForce RTX GPU allows her to spend more time in that magical creative zone where ideas come to life faster and more naturally.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Li goes into greater detail on how she created <i>Snake Witch<\/i> in her Studio Session.
