Jimmy magically disappears because of the masked layer that Surfaced Studio applied.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_58201\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-58201\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/studio-itns-wk13-fluid-sim-blender-video.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/studio-itns-wk13-fluid-sim-blender-video-672x378.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"672\" height=\"378\"><\/p>\n<p><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-58201\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Video playback within Blender.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>He then rendered the clip and imported it into Blender. This served as a reference to match the 3D scene geometry with the fluid simulation.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_58204\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-58204\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/surfaced-studio-fluid-sim-impact-1280w.png\"><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/surfaced-studio-fluid-sim-impact-1280w-672x378.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"672\" height=\"378\"><\/p>\n<p><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-58204\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The fluid simulation built with Mantaflow collides with Surfaced Studio.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Surfaced Studio then selected the Mantaflow fluid feature, tweaking parameters to create the fluid simulation. For a beginner\u2019s look at fluid simulation techniques, check out his tutorial, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=1MhAxG9JJPg\"><i>FLUID SIMULATIONS in Blender 2.9 with Mantaflow<\/i><\/a><i>. <\/i>This feature, accelerated by his GeForce RTX 2070 Laptop GPU, bakes simulations <a href=\"https:\/\/blender.community\/c\/rightclickselect\/Nsgbbc\/?sorting=hot\">faster<\/a> than with a CPU alone.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>To capture a collision with accurate, realistic physics, Surfaced Studio set up rigid body objects, creating the physical geometry for the fluid to collide with. The Jimmy character was marked with the <i>Use Flow <\/i>property to emit the fluid at the exact moment of the collision.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_58210\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-58210\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/surfaced-studio-fluid-sim-wateronly-1280w.png\"><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/surfaced-studio-fluid-sim-wateronly-1280w-672x281.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"672\" height=\"281\"><\/p>\n<p><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-58210\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Speed vectors unlocked the motion blur effect accelerated by Surfaced Studio\u2019s GPU.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<div class=\"simplePullQuote right\">\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s hard not to recommend NVIDIA GPUs for anyone wanting to explore the creative space, and I\u2019ve been using them for well over a decade now,\u201d said Surfaced Studio.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Surfaced Studio also enabled speed vectors to implement motion blur effects directly on the fluid simulation, adding further realism to the short.<\/p>\n<p>His entire 3D creative workflow in Blender was accelerated by the RTX 2070 Laptop GPU: the fluid simulation, motion blur effects, animations and mesh generation. Blender Cycles RTX-accelerated OptiX ray tracing unlocked quick interactive modeling in the viewport and lightning-fast final renders. Surfaced Studio said his GPU saved him countless hours to reinvest in his creativity.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_58213\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-58213\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/surfaced-studio-fluid-sim-compositing-1280w.png\"><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/surfaced-studio-fluid-sim-compositing-1280w-672x362.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"672\" height=\"362\"><\/p>\n<p><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-58213\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Take note of the multiple layers needed to bring 3D animations to life.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Surfaced Studio reached the composite stage in After Effects, applying the GPU-accelerated <i>Curves <\/i>effect to the water, shaping and illuminating it to his liking.<\/p>\n<p>He then used the Boris FX Mocha AE plugin to rotoscope Jimmy \u2014 or create sequences by tracing over live-action footage frame by frame \u2014 to animate the character.
