New features and improvements to apps including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/en-us\/omniverse\/apps\/create\/\">Create<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/en-us\/omniverse\/apps\/machinima\/\">Machinima<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/en-us\/omniverse\/apps\/audio2face\/\">Audio2Face<\/a> and Nucleus will help 3D artists build virtual worlds, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/en-us\/omniverse\/solutions\/digital-twins\/\">digital twins<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/developer.nvidia.com\/nvidia-omniverse-platform\/avatar\">avatars<\/a> for the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/blog\/2021\/08\/10\/what-is-the-metaverse\/\">metaverse<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Each month, NVIDIA Studio Driver releases provide artists, creators and 3D developers with the best performance and reliability when working with creative applications. Available now, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/en-us\/drivers\/results\/192970\/\">August NVIDIA Studio Driver<\/a> gives creators peak reliability for using Omniverse and their favorite creative apps.<\/p>\n<p>Plus, this week\u2019s featured <i>In the NVIDIA Studio <\/i>artist, Simon Lavit, exhibits his mastery of Omniverse as the winner of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/en-us\/omniverse\/machinima-contest\/\">#MadeInMachinima contest<\/a>. The 3D artist showcases the creative workflow for his victorious short film, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=JoD1g2SjVG0&amp;ab_channel=NVIDIAOmniverse\"><i>Painting the Astronaut<\/i><\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2><b>Omniverse Expands<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>NVIDIA Omniverse \u2014 an open platform based on <a href=\"https:\/\/nvidianews.nvidia.com\/news\/nvidia-and-partners-build-out-universal-scene-description-to-accelerate-industrial-metaverse-and-next-wave-of-ai\">Universal Scene Description<\/a> (USD) for building and connecting virtual worlds \u2014 just received a <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/blog\/2022\/08\/09\/omniverse-siggraph\/\">significant upgrade<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/en-us\/omniverse\/apps\/\">Omniverse Apps<\/a> \u2014 including Create 2022.2 \u2014 received a major <a href=\"https:\/\/developer.nvidia.com\/physx-sdk\">PhysX<\/a> update with soft-body simulation, particle-cloth simulation and soft-contact models, delivering more realism to physically accurate virtual worlds. Added OmniLive workflows enable artists more freedom through a new collaboration interface for non-destructive <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/en-us\/omniverse\/usd\/\">USD<\/a> workflows.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_58795\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-58795\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/studio-itns-madeinmachinima-wk17-blog-khada-smile-1280w.png\"><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/studio-itns-madeinmachinima-wk17-blog-khada-smile-1280w-672x357.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"672\" height=\"357\"><\/p>\n<p><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-58795\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Omniverse users can now add animations and emotions with the Audio2Face app.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Audio2Face 2022.1 is now available in beta, including major updates that enable AI-powered emotion control and full facial animation, delivering more realism than ever. Users can now direct emotion over time, as well as mix key emotions like joy, amazement, anger and sadness. The AI can also direct eye, teeth and tongue motion, in addition to the avatar\u2019s skin, providing an even more complete facial-animation solution.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Learn additional details on <a href=\"https:\/\/nvidianews.nvidia.com\/news\/nvidia-announces-major-release-of-omniverse-with-new-usd-connectors-and-tools-simulation-technologies-and-developer-frameworks\">these updates and more<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2><b>Winning the #MadeInMachinima Contest<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>Since he first held a pen, Simon Lavit has been an artist. Now, Lavit adds Omniverse Machinima to the list of creative tools he\u2019s mastered, as the winner of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=6oRyFad3PnE&amp;ab_channel=NVIDIAOmniverse\">#MadeInMachinima<\/a> contest.<\/p>\n<p>His entry, <i>Painting the Astronaut<\/i>, was selected by an esteemed panel of judges that included numerous creative experts.<\/p>\n<p>Powered by a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/en-us\/geforce\/graphics-cards\/30-series\/rtx-3090-3090ti\/\">GeForce RTX 3090 GPU<\/a>, Lavit\u2019s creative workflow showcases the breadth and interoperability of Omniverse, its Apps and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/en-us\/omniverse\/#apps-connectors\">Connectors<\/a>. He used lighting and scene setting to establish the short film\u2019s changing mood, helping audiences understand the story\u2019s progression. Its introduction, for example, is bright and clear. He quickly turned to NVIDIA\u2019s built-in 3D asset library, filled with free content from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.taleworlds.com\/en\/Games\/Bannerlord\"><i>Mount &amp; Blade II: Bannerlord<\/i><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/mw5mercs.com\/\"><i>Mechwarrior 5: Mercenaries<\/i><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/joinsquad.com\/\"><i>Squad<\/i><\/a> and more \u2013 to populate the scene.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_58801\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-58801\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/studio-itns-madeinmachinima-wk17-blog-simon-lavit-06-1280w.png\"><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/studio-itns-madeinmachinima-wk17-blog-simon-lavit-06-1280w-672x375.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"672\" height=\"375\"><\/p>\n<p><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-58801\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The 3D model for the spaceship was created in Autodesk Maya within Omniverse.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Then, Lavit used Autodesk Maya to create 3D models for some of his hero assets \u2014 like the protagonist Sol\u2019s spaceship. The Maya Omniverse Connector allowed him to visualize scenes within Omniverse Create. He also benefited from RTX-accelerated ray tracing and AI denoising in Maya, resulting in highly interactive and photorealistic renders.<\/p>\n<p>Next, Lavit textured the models in <a href=\"https:\/\/substance3d.adobe.com\/plugins\/substance-in-omniverse\/\">Adobe Substance 3D, which also has an Omniverse Connector<\/a>. Substance 3D uses NVIDIA Iray rendering, including for textures and substances. It also features RTX-accelerated light- and ambient-occlusion baking, which optimizes assets in seconds.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Lavit then returned to Machinima for final layout, animation and render. The result was composited using Adobe After Effects, with an extra layer of effects and music. Living in a different country from where he was born changed his vision of art, he said. Lavit regularly finds inspiration from the French graphic novel series, <i>The Incal<\/i>, which is written by Alejandro Jodorowsky and illustrated by renowned cartoonist Jean Giraud, aka M\u0153bius.<\/p>\n<h2><b>Made the Grade<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>The next generation of creative professionals is heading back to campus.
