{"id":256,"date":"2020-09-23T05:55:48","date_gmt":"2020-09-23T05:55:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/machine-learning.webcloning.com\/2020\/09\/23\/ai-in-the-hand-of-the-artist\/"},"modified":"2020-09-23T05:55:48","modified_gmt":"2020-09-23T05:55:48","slug":"ai-in-the-hand-of-the-artist","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/salarydistribution.com\/machine-learning\/2020\/09\/23\/ai-in-the-hand-of-the-artist\/","title":{"rendered":"AI in the Hand of the Artist"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-url=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/blog\/2020\/09\/22\/ai-art-gallery\/\" data-title=\"AI in the Hand of the Artist\">\n<p>Humans are wielding AI to create art, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/en-us\/gtc\/ai-art-gallery\/\">a virtual exhibit<\/a> that\u2019s part of NVIDIA\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/en-us\/gtc\/\">GPU Technology Conference<\/a> showcases the stunning results.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/en-us\/gtc\/ai-art-gallery\/\">The AI Art Gallery at NVIDIA GTC<\/a> features pieces by a broad collection of artists, developers and researchers from around the world who are using AI to push the limits of artistic expression.<\/p>\n<p>When AI is introduced into the artistic process, the artist feeds the machine data and code, explains NVIDIA\u2019s Heather Schoell senior art director at NVIDIA, who curated the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/en-us\/gtc\/ai-art-gallery\/\">online exhibit<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/ai-gallery-a.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/ai-gallery-a.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"558\" height=\"296\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Once the output reveals itself, it\u2019s up to the artist to determine if it stands up to their artistic style and desired message, or if the input needs to be adjusted, according to Schoell.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe output reflects both the artist\u2019s hand and the medium, in this case data, used for creation,\u201d Schoell says.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibit complements what has become the world\u2019s premier AI conference.<\/p>\n<p>GTC, running Oct. 5-9, will bring together researchers from industry and academia, startups and Fortune 500 companies.<\/p>\n<p>So it\u2019s only natural that artists would be among those putting modern AI to work.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThrough this collection we aim to share how the artist can partner with AI as both an artistic medium and creative collaborator,\u201d Schoell explains.<\/p>\n<p>The artists featured in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/en-us\/gtc\/ai-art-gallery\/\">AI Art Gallery<\/a> include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<b>Daniel Ambrosi \u2013 <\/b>\u201cDreamscapes\u201d fuses computational photography and AI to create a deeply textural environment.<\/li>\n<li>\n<b>Refik Anadol<\/b> \u2013 \u201c<i>Machine Hallucinations,\u201d<\/i> by the Turkish-born, Los Angeles-based conceptual artist known for his immersive architectural digital installations, such as a project at New York\u2019s Chelsea Market that used projectors to splash AI generated images based of New York cityscapes to create what Anadol called a \u201cmachine hallucination.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\n<b>Sofia Crespo and Dark Fractures<\/b> \u2013 Work from the Argentina-born artist and Berlin-based studio led by Feileacan McCormick uses GANs and NLP models to generate 3D insects in a virtual, digital space.<\/li>\n<li>\n<b>Scott Eaton \u2013 <\/b>An artist, educator and creative technologist residing in London combines a deep understanding of human anatomy, traditional art techniques and modern digital tools in his uncanny, figurative artworks.<\/li>\n<li>\n<b>Oxia Palus<\/b> \u2013 The NVIDIA Inception startup will uncover a new masterpiece by Leonardo Da Vinci that resurrects a hidden sketch and reconstructs the painting style from one of the most famous artists of all time, DaVinci.<\/li>\n<li>\n<b>Anna Ridler \u2013<\/b> Three displays showing images of tulips that change based on Bitcoin\u2019s price, created by a U.K. artist and researcher known for her work exploring the intersection of machine learning, nature and history.<\/li>\n<li>\n<b>Helena Sarin<\/b> \u2013 Using her own drawings, sketches, and photographs as datasets, Helena trains her models to generate new visuals that serve as the basis of her compositions \u2014 in this case with type of neural network known as a generative adversarial network, or GAN. The Moscow-born artist has embedded 12 of these creations in a book of puns on the acronym GAN.<\/li>\n<li>\n<b>Pindar Van Arman<\/b> \u2013 Driven by a collection of algorithms programmed to work with \u2014 and against \u2014 one another, the U.S.-based artist and roboticist\u2019s creation uses a paintbrush, paint and canvas to create portraits that fuse the look and feel of a photo and a handmade sketch.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For a closer look, registered GTC attendees can go on a live, personal tour of two of our featured artists\u2019 studios.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/ai-gallery-b.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/ai-gallery-b.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"558\" height=\"296\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, Oct. 8, you can virtually tour Van Arman\u2019s Fort Worth, Texas, studio between 11-12 p.m. Pacific time.
