The NVIDIA Ada Lovelace GPU architecture delivers a generational leap in performance and power that enables users to work in large-scale, virtual worlds with true interactivity \u2014 so creators can navigate viewports at full fidelity in real time.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/en-us\/omniverse\/apps\/create\/\">Omniverse Create<\/a> app has new large world-authoring and animation improvements.<\/p>\n<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/en-us\/omniverse\/apps\/machinima\/\">Omniverse Machinima<\/a>, creators gain AI superpowers with <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.omniverse.nvidia.com\/app_machinima\/prod_extensions\/ext_audio2gesture.html\">Audio2Gesture<\/a> \u2014 an AI-powered tool that creates lifelike body movements based on an audio file.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/developer.nvidia.com\/physx-sdk\">PhysX 5<\/a>, the technology behind <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.omniverse.nvidia.com\/plat_omniverse\/plat_omniverse\/simulation.html\">Omniverse\u2019s hyperrealistic physics simulation<\/a>, features built-in audio for collisions, as well as improved cloth and deformable body simulations. Newly available as open source software, PhysX 5 enables artists and developers to modify, build and distribute custom physics engines.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.omniverse.nvidia.com\/con_connect\/con_connect\/overview.html\">Omniverse Connect<\/a> library has received updates to Omniverse Connectors, including Autodesk 3ds Max, Autodesk Maya, Autodesk Revit, Epic Games Unreal Engine, McNeel Rhino, Trimble SketchUp and Graphisoft Archicad. Connectors for Autodesk Alias and PTC Creo are also now available.<\/p>\n<p>The updated <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.omniverse.nvidia.com\/con_connect\/con_connect\/iclone.html\">Reallusion iClone 8.1.0\u2019s live-sync Connector<\/a> allows for seamless character interactions between iClone and Omniverse apps. And OTOY\u2019s OctaneRender Hydra Relegate enables Omniverse users to access OctaneRender directly in Omniverse apps.<\/p>\n<p>Learn more about the Omniverse release and tune into the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.twitch.tv\/nvidiaomniverse\">Twitch livestream<\/a> detailing announcements on Wednesday, Nov. 9. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/en-us\/omniverse\/download\/\">Download Omniverse<\/a>, which is free for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/en-us\/design-visualization\/rtx-professional-laptops\/\">NVIDIA RTX<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/en-us\/geforce\/graphics-cards\/40-series\/\">GeForce RTX GPU<\/a> owners.<\/p>\n<h2><b>Featuring a Fun-gi\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>Juliestrator\u2019s artistic inspiration comes from the examination of the different worlds that people create. \u201cNo matter if it\u2019s the latest Netflix show or an artwork I see on Twitter, I love when a piece of art leaves space for my own imagination to fill in the gaps and come up with my own stories,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p><i>Mushroom Spirit <\/i>was conceived as a sketch for last year\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/inktober.com\/\">Inktober<\/a> challenge, which had the prompt of \u201cspirit.\u201d Rather than creating a ghost like many others, Juliestrator took a different approach. <i>Mushroom Spirit<\/i> was born as a cute nature spirit lurking in a forest, like the Kodama creatures from the <i>Princess Mononoke<\/i> film from which she drew inspiration.<\/p>\n<p>Juliestrator gathered reference material using Pinterest. She then used PureRef\u2019s overlay feature to help position reference imagery while modeling in Blender software. Though it\u2019s rare for Juliestrator to sketch in 2D for 3D projects, she said <i>Mushroom Spirit<\/i> called for a more personal touch, so she generated a quick scribble in Procreate.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_60702\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-60702\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/studio-itns-juliestrator-wk30-sketch-1280w.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/studio-itns-juliestrator-wk30-sketch-1280w-672x392.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"672\" height=\"392\"><\/p>\n<p><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-60702\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The origins of \u2018Mushroom Spirit.\u2019<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Using Blender, she then entered the block-out phase \u2014 creating a rough-draft level built using simple 3D shapes, without details or polished art assets. This helped to keep base meshes clean, eliminating the need to create new meshes in the next round, which required only minor edits.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_60705\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-60705\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/studio-itns-juliestrator-wk30-mushroom-render-1280w.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/studio-itns-juliestrator-wk30-mushroom-render-1280w-672x477.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"672\" height=\"477\"><\/p>\n<p><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-60705\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Getting the basic shapes down by blocking out \u2018Mushroom Spirit\u2019 in Blender.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>At this point, many artists would typically start to model detailed scene elements, but Julistrator prioritizes coloring. \u201cI\u2019ve noticed how much color influences the compositions and mood of the artwork, so I try to make this important decision as early as possible,\u201d the artist said.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_60708\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-60708\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/studio-itns-juliestrator-wk30-log-1280w.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/studio-itns-juliestrator-wk30-log-1280w-672x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"672\" height=\"300\"><\/p>\n<p><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-60708\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Color modifications in Adobe Substance 3D Painter.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>She used Adobe Substance 3D Painter software to apply a myriad of colors and experimental textures to her models. On her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/en-us\/studio\/laptops-desktops\">NVIDIA Studio laptop<\/a>, the Razer Blade 15 Studio equipped with an NVIDIA Quadro RTX 5000 GPU, Juliestrator used RTX-accelerated light and ambient occlusion to bake assets in mere seconds.<\/p>\n<p>She then refined the existing models in Blender. \u201cThis is where powerful hardware helps a lot,\u201d she said. \u201cThe NVIDIA OptiX AI-accelerated denoiser helps me preview any changes I make in Blender almost instantly, which lets me test more ideas at the same time and as a result get better finished renders.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_60711\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-60711\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/studio-itns-juliestrator-wk30-mushroom-clay-render-1280w.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/studio-itns-juliestrator-wk30-mushroom-clay-render-1280w-503x500.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"503\" height=\"500\"><\/p>\n<p><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-60711\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tinkering and tweaking color palettes in Blender.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Though she enjoys the modeling stage, Juliestrator said that the desire to refine an endless number of details can be overwhelming. As such, she deploys an \u201c80\/20 rule,\u201d dedicating no more than 20% of the entire project\u2019s timeline to detailed modeling. \u201cThat\u2019s the magic of the 80\/20 rule: tackle the correct 20%, and the other 80% often falls into place,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Juliestrator finally adjusts the composition in 3D \u2014 manipulating the light objects, rotating the camera and adding animations. She completed all of this quickly with an assist from RTX-accelerated OptiX ray tracing in the Blender viewport, using Blender Cycles for the fastest frame renders.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_60714\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-60714\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/studio-itns-juliestrator-wk30-scene-lights-1280w.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/studio-itns-juliestrator-wk30-scene-lights-1280w-672x392.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"672\" height=\"392\"><\/p>\n<p><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-60714\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Animations in Blender during the final stage.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Blender is Juliestrator\u2019s preferred 3D modeling app, she said, due to its ease of use and powerful AI features, as well as its accessibility. \u201cI truly appreciate the efforts of the Blender Foundation and all of its partners in keeping Blender free and available to people from all over the world, to enhance anyone\u2019s creativity,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Juliestrator chose to use an NVIDIA Studio laptop, a \u201cporta-bella\u201d system for efficiency and convenience, she said. \u201cI needed a powerful computer that would let me use both Blender and a game engine like Unity or Unreal Engine 5, while staying mobile and on the go,\u201d the artist added.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_60720\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-60720\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/studio-itns-juliestrator-wk30-featured-setup-1280w.png\"><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/studio-itns-juliestrator-wk30-featured-setup-1280w-672x243.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"672\" height=\"243\"><\/p>\n<p><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-60720\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Illustrator Julie Greenberg, aka Juliestrator.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Check out Juliestrator\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/linktr.ee\/juliestrator\">portfolio and social media links<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>For more direction and inspiration for building 3D worlds, check out Juliestrator\u2019s five-part tutorial, <i>Modeling 3D New York Diorama<\/i>, which covers the critical stages in 3D workflows: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=GGJpBQY1RxU\">sketching composition<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ow_IY_6wGWM\">modeling details<\/a> and more.
