{"id":2864,"date":"2023-02-01T17:00:57","date_gmt":"2023-02-01T17:00:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/salarydistribution.com\/machine-learning\/2023\/02\/01\/meet-the-omnivore-architectural-researcher-lights-up-omniverse-scenes-with-sunpath-extension\/"},"modified":"2023-02-01T17:00:57","modified_gmt":"2023-02-01T17:00:57","slug":"meet-the-omnivore-architectural-researcher-lights-up-omniverse-scenes-with-sunpath-extension","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/salarydistribution.com\/machine-learning\/2023\/02\/01\/meet-the-omnivore-architectural-researcher-lights-up-omniverse-scenes-with-sunpath-extension\/","title":{"rendered":"Meet the Omnivore: Architectural Researcher Lights Up Omniverse Scenes With \u2018SunPath\u2019 Extension"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-url=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/blog\/2023\/02\/01\/pingfan-wu-omniverse-developer\/\" data-title=\"Meet the Omnivore: Architectural Researcher Lights Up Omniverse Scenes With \u2018SunPath\u2019 Extension\" data-hashtags=\"\">\n<p><i>Editor\u2019s note: This post is a part of our <\/i><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/blog\/tag\/meet-the-omnivore\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i>Meet the Omnivore<\/i><\/a><i> series, which features individual creators and developers who use <\/i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/en-us\/omniverse\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i>NVIDIA Omniverse<\/i><\/a><i> to accelerate their 3D workflows and create virtual worlds.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Things are a lot sunnier these days for designers looking to visualize their projects in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/en-us\/omniverse\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NVIDIA Omniverse<\/a>, a platform for creating and operating <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/blog\/2021\/08\/10\/what-is-the-metaverse\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">metaverse<\/a> applications.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_62196\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-62196\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-62196\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/headshot-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\"><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-62196\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Pingfan Wu<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Pingfan Wu, a senior architectural researcher at the Hunan Architectural Design Institute (HNADI) Group in south-central China, developed an Omniverse extension that makes controlling the sun and its effects on scenes within the platform more intuitive and precise.<\/p>\n<p>Wu has won multiple awards for his work with Omniverse extensions \u2014 core building blocks that let anyone create and extend functions of the Omniverse using the popular Python or C++ programming languages.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cSunPath\u201d extension lets users easily add, manipulate and update a sun-path diagram within the Omniverse viewport.<\/p>\n<p>This enables designers to visualize how the sun will impact a site or building at different times of day throughout the year, which is critical for the architecture, engineering, construction and operations (AECO) industry.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo achieve digitization in the AECO industry, the first task is to build a bridge for data interoperability between design tools, and the only platform that can fill this role is Omniverse,\u201d Wu said. \u201cBased on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/en-us\/omniverse\/usd\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Universal Scene Description<\/a> framework, Omniverse enables designers to collaborate using different software.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And the excellent rendering power of Omniverse makes the sunlight look very realistic, Wu added.<\/p>\n<h2><b>Award-Winning Omniverse Extension<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>The extension shined brightly in NVIDIA\u2019s inaugural <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/en-us\/omniverse\/apps\/code\/developer-contest\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">#ExtendOmniverse contest<\/a> last fall, winning the \u201cscene modifier or manipulator tools\u201d category.<\/p>\n<p>The competition invited developers to use the <a href=\"https:\/\/developer.nvidia.com\/nvidia-omniverse-platform\/code-app\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Omniverse Code<\/a> app to create their own Omniverse extensions for a chance to win an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/en-us\/geforce\/rtx\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NVIDIA RTX<\/a> GPU.<\/p>\n<p>Wu decided to join, as he saw the potential for Omniverse\u2019s real-time, collaborative, AI-powered tools to let designers \u201cfocus more on ideas and design rather than on rendering and struggling to connect models from different software,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Many design tools that come with a skylight feature lack realistic shadows, the researcher had noticed. His \u201cSunPath\u201d extension \u2014 built in just over a month \u2014 solves this problem, as designers can import scenes to Omniverse and create accurate sun studies quickly and easily.<\/p>\n<p>They can even use \u201cSunPath\u201d to perform energy-consumption analyses to make design results more efficient, Wu added.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-62202\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/IMG_0069-672x448.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"672\" height=\"448\"><\/p>\n<h2><b>More Wins With Omniverse<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>Participating in the #ExtendOmniverse contest inspired Wu to develop further applications of Omniverse for AECO, he said.<\/p>\n<p>He led his team at HNADI, which includes eight members who are experts in both architecture and technology, to create a platform that enables users to customize AECO-specific <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/en-us\/omniverse\/solutions\/digital-twins\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">digital twins<\/a>.
