For ManvsMachine, it presented an artistic opportunity.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_62615\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-62615\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/studio-itns-manvsmachine-wk46-broccoli-1280w.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-62615\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/studio-itns-manvsmachine-wk46-broccoli-1280w-672x449.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"672\" height=\"449\"><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-62615\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Romanesco broccoli is the inspiration behind \u2018Roving Romanesco.\u2019<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The<i> Roving Romanesco<\/i> animation started out as a series of explorations based on romanesco broccoli, a prime example of a fractal found in nature.<\/p>\n<p>ManvsMachine\u2019s goal was to find an efficient way of recreating it in 3D and generate complex geometry using a simple setup.<\/p>\n<p>The genesis of the animation revolved around creating a phyllotaxis pattern, an arrangement of leaves on a plant stem, using the high-performance expression language VEX in SideFX\u2019s Houdini software.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_62618\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-62618\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/studio-itns-manvsmachine-wk46-1-1280w.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-62618\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/studio-itns-manvsmachine-wk46-1-1280w-672x338.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"672\" height=\"338\"><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-62618\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Points offset at 137.5 degrees, known as the golden angle.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>This was achieved by creating numerous points and offsetting each from the previous one by 137.5 degrees, known as the golden or \u201cperfect circular\u201d angle, while moving outward from the center. The built-in RTX-accelerated Karma XPU renderer enabled fast simulation models powered by the team\u2019s GeForce RTX 3090 GPUs.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_62621\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-62621\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/studio-itns-manvsmachine-wk46-2-1280w.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-62621\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/studio-itns-manvsmachine-wk46-2-1280w-672x338.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"672\" height=\"338\"><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-62621\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Individual florets begin to form.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The team added simple height and width to the shapes using ramp controls then copied geometry onto those points inside a loop.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_62624\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-62624\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/2-1.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-large wp-image-62624\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/2-1-672x343.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"672\" height=\"343\"><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-62624\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Romanesco broccoli starts to come together.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>With the basic structure intact, ManvsMachine sculpted florets individually to create a stunning 3D model in the shape of romanesco broccoli. The RTX-accelerated Karma XPU renderer dramatically sped up animations of the shape, as well.<\/p>\n<div class=\"simplePullQuote right\">\n<p>\u201cCreativity is enhanced by faster ray-traced rendering, smoother 3D viewports, quicker simulations and AI-enhanced image denoising upscaling \u2014 all accelerated by NVIDIA RTX GPUs.\u201d \u2014 ManvsMachine<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The project was then imported to Foundry\u2019s Nuke software for compositing and final touch-ups. When pursuing a softer look, ManvsMachine counteracted the complexity of the animation with some \u201ceasy-on-the-eyes\u201d materials and color choices with a realistic depth of field.<\/p>\n<p>Many advanced nodes in Nuke are GPU accelerated, which gave the team another speed advantage.<\/p>\n<p>Projects like <i>Roving Romanesco<\/i> represent the high-quality work ManvsMachine strives to deliver for clients.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur ethos is reflected in our name,\u201d said ManvsMachine. \u201cEqual importance is placed on ideas and execution.
