He\u2019s developed feature films at Sony Pictures, children\u2019s series and comedies at BBC and global transmedia content at NBCUniversal.<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s also the creator of <i>Arteana\u2019s Art Squad<\/i> \u2014 a computer graphics animated series featuring vibrant characters who use the power of art to solve the world\u2019s problems. They come together in the Junior School art classroom, where each brings unique artistic talents, knowledge and perspective on art history, art therapy and in art-making.<\/p>\n<p>Aimed at children, the series seeks to inspire viewers by portraying the characters\u2019 artistic journeys and the power of creative expression. Their adventures are meant to spark a sense of empathy by exploring the universal themes of self-doubt, social dynamics, success and failure. Underscoring the power of imagination and creative thinking is a common throughline.<\/p>\n<p>Nizam\u2019s creative insight and unique perspective are the subjects of this week\u2019s <i>In the NVIDIA Studio <\/i>installment.<\/p>\n<p>The artist recently participated in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.asus.com\/proart\/events\/fmx2023\/\">ASUS ProArt Masters\u2019 Talks sessions<\/a> program, where he demonstrated how <a href=\"https:\/\/www.asus.com\/proart\/laptops-home\/\">ASUS ProArt solutions<\/a>, including the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/en-us\/studio\/laptops-desktops\/\">NVIDIA Studio<\/a>-validated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.asus.com\/laptops\/for-creators\/proart-studiobook\/proart-studiobook-pro-16-oled-w7600-12th-gen-intel\/\">ProArt Studiobook Pro 16 OLED laptop<\/a> with Arteana\u2019s Art Squad\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>Meet Arteana, leader of the Art Squad, who possesses a keen interest in historical artists and art movements.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_66641\" id=\"caption-attachment-66653\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">PuttPupp is incredibly expressive and animated with a boundless energy that putts everyone in a good mood.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2><b>Art Squad, Assemble<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>Nizam \u2014 matching the demeanor and spirit of his work \u2014 is honest. He\u2019s not an expert at 3D modeling, nor is he a visual effects artist, and he\u2019s not the most adept at production pipelines. However, he does love to draw.<\/p>\n<p>His focus has always been on characters, storytelling and world-building. He built <i>Arteana\u2019s Art Squad <\/i>independently while working in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/en-us\/omniverse\/creators\/\">NVIDIA Omniverse<\/a>, a platform for building and connecting 3D tools and apps.<\/p>\n<div class=\"simplePullQuote right\">\n<p>\u201cSpeaking as a storyteller first and a non-technical indie creator second, I find Omniverse to be the most user-friendly and versatile way to connect the 3D apps in my workflows I\u2019ve come to rely on, and enjoy this way of working from concept to final pixel.\u201d \u2014 Rafi Nizam<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cAs a showrunner, embarking on making a CG animated show without a crew is kind of daunting, but I\u2019m using NVIDIA Omniverse to discover ways to overcome my limitations in this space,\u201d Nizam said.<\/p>\n<p>Nizam began by modeling each squad member and building production assets in Adobe Substance 3D Modeler using VR. He also utilized the VR app Gravity Sketch to create models for the different objects required in each set or scene.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDesigning 3D character models in VR makes pre-production and look dev possible for an artist like me,\u201c\u00a0 he said.<\/p>\n<p>Nizam imported his character into Autodesk Maya for the rigging process \u2014 creating a skeleton for the 3D model so that it can move.<\/p>\n<p>His RTX GPU delivered AI-powered, accelerated denoising with the default Autodesk Arnold renderer, resulting in highly interactive and photorealistic renders.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_66656\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-66656\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/week73-rafi-nizam-aas-in-app-may-a-puttpupp-rig-1280w.png\"><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/week73-rafi-nizam-aas-in-app-may-a-puttpupp-rig-1280w-672x365.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"672\" height=\"365\"><\/p>\n<p><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-66656\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Character rigging in Autodesk Maya.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Nizam then moved to Adobe Substance 3D Painter to create textures and materials, applying them to production assets. NVIDIA RTX-accelerated light and ambient occlusion baking optimized assets in mere seconds.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_66659\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-66659\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/week73-rafi-nizam-aas-rivette-chorus-1280w.png\"><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/week73-rafi-nizam-aas-rivette-chorus-1280w-672x378.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"672\" height=\"378\"><\/p>\n<p><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-66659\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Immaculate textures built in Adobe Substance Painter.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Next, Nizam deployed Unreal Engine to record motion captures via a Perception Neuron suit, creating scenes and camera sequences in real time. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/en-us\/geforce\/technologies\/dlss\/\">NVIDIA DLSS<\/a> technology increased the interactivity of the viewport by using AI to upscale frames rendered at lower resolution, while retaining high-fidelity detail.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_66662\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-66662\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/week73-rafi-nizam-aas-mo-cap-1280w.png\"><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/week73-rafi-nizam-aas-mo-cap-1280w-672x378.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"672\" height=\"378\"><\/p>\n<p><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-66662\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Motion capture with Noitom Perception Neuron suits in Unreal Engine allowed Nizam to be more spontaneous with his work.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cMotion capture fosters experimentation and spontaneous collaboration with performers capturing an abundance of movement, a luxury often untenable for indie projects,\u201d said Nizam.<\/p>\n<p>NVIDIA Omniverse\u2019s spatial computing capabilities took Nizam\u2019s creative workflow to the next level. The Omniverse USD Composer\u2019s native VR support enables artists to interactively assemble, light and navigate scenes in real time, individually or collaboratively, in fully ray-traced VR.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_66679\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-66679\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/week73-rafi-nizam-usd-composer-1280w.png\"><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/week73-rafi-nizam-usd-composer-1280w-672x365.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"672\" height=\"365\"><\/p>\n<p><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-66679\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">VR in Omniverse USD Composer.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Here, Nizam adjusted scene lighting and approved the overall layout in VR.
