We\u2019re also deep diving on new <\/i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/en-us\/geforce\/graphics-cards\/40-series\/\"><i>GeForce RTX 40 Series GPU<\/i><\/a><i> features, technologies and resources, and how they dramatically accelerate content creation.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>This week\u2019s featured <i>In the NVIDIA Studio<\/i> 3D artist Brandon Tieh puts his artistic talents on full display with his whimsical scene <i>Magic Valley<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>An array of colors \u2014 from bright crimson to hushed blues and lush greens \u2014 help set the mood of the vivid scene, which took inspiration from Tieh\u2019s love for video games, anime and manga.<\/p>\n<p>His diverse pieces \u2014 along with the works of fellow Studio artists like Christian Dimitrov, Vera Dementchouk and Eddie Mendoza \u2014 take audiences to fantastical getaways in the latest Studio Standouts video.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>To fuel creative work, the new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/en-us\/geforce\/graphics-cards\/40-series\/rtx-4080-family\/\">GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER<\/a> is available starting tomorrow in a limited Founders Edition design and as custom boards from partners, starting at $999. It\u2019s equipped with more cores than the GeForce RTX 4080 and includes the world\u2019s fastest GDDR6X video memory at 23 Gbps. In 3D apps like Blender, it can run up to 70% faster than previous generations. Discover what RTX 40 SUPER Series graphics cards and systems <a href=\"https:\/\/store.nvidia.com\/en-us\/geforce\/store\/?page=1&amp;limit=9&amp;locale=en-us\">are available<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2><b>Stepping Into Magical Worlds<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>Tieh\u2019s scene began as a sketch of what he envisioned to be a giant door in a grassy field.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA very broad and abstract thought \u2014 but that\u2019s sort of the point of fantasy,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_69494\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-69494\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/zbrush-studio-world-brandon-tieh-wk94-highresscreenshot00228-1280w.png\"><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/zbrush-studio-world-brandon-tieh-wk94-highresscreenshot00228-1280w-672x270.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"672\" height=\"270\"><\/p>\n<p><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-69494\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tieh specializes in building impressive worlds.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>To bring it to life, he began by gathering assets such as rocks and grass from Quixel Megascans, the Unreal Engine Marketplace and ArtStation Marketplace.<\/p>\n<p>The door required extra customization, so he modeled one from scratch, first sculpting it in ZBrush before importing it into Adobe 3D Substance Painter for a quick texture pass. Tieh\u2019s GeForce RTX graphics card used RTX-accelerated light and ambient occlusion to bake assets in mere seconds.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_69497\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-69497\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/zbrush-studio-brandon-tieh-wk94-highresscreenshot00228-1280w.png\"><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/zbrush-studio-brandon-tieh-wk94-highresscreenshot00228-1280w-672x378.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"672\" height=\"378\"><\/p>\n<p><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-69497\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Lighting will heavily influence the final look, so only a basic texture pass was needed in Substance 3D Painter.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Next, Tieh tackled modeling the obelisks and pillars in Blender, where RTX-accelerated OptiX ray tracing in the viewport ensured highly interactive, photorealistic rendering.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_69500\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-69500\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/blender-studio-brandon-tieh-wk94-highresscreenshot00228-1280w.png\"><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/blender-studio-brandon-tieh-wk94-highresscreenshot00228-1280w-672x378.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"672\" height=\"378\"><\/p>\n<p><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-69500\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Modeling and UV layouts of pillars and obelisks.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>He then unwrapped his 3D assets onto a 2D plane, where he applied textures to the model\u2019s surfaces to enhance realism \u2014 a key process called UV unwrapping.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_69503\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-69503\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/studio-brandon-tieh-wk94-highresscreenshot00228-1280w.png\"><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/studio-brandon-tieh-wk94-highresscreenshot00228-1280w-672x284.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"672\" height=\"284\"><\/p>\n<p><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-69503\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tieh\u2019s customized door in Unreal Engine.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>With the textured assets in place, Tieh next built the scene in Unreal Engine. His technique involves focusing on the big shapes by looking at the scene in a smaller thumbnail view, then flipping the canvas to refresh his perspective \u2014 very similar to the approach concept artists use. He adjusted lighting by deploying the same technique.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_69507\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-69507\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/studio-brandon-tieh-wk94-highresscreenshot00239-1280w.png\"><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.nvidia.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/01\/studio-brandon-tieh-wk94-highresscreenshot00239-1280w-672x284.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"672\" height=\"284\"><\/p>\n<p><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-69507\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">\u201cMagic Valley\u201d adjusting atmospheric light in the scene.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<div class=\"simplePullQuote right\">\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve used NVIDIA GPUs all my life \u2014 they\u2019re super reliable and high performing without any issues.\u201d\u00a0 \u2014 Brandon Tieh<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Unreal Engine users can tap <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/en-us\/geforce\/technologies\/dlss\/\">NVIDIA DLSS<\/a> Super Resolution to increase the interactivity of the viewport by using AI to upscale frames rendered at lower resolution, and enhance image quality using DLSS Ray Reconstruction.<\/p>\n<p>Fog is another major component of the scene. \u201cFog is generally darker and more opaque in the background and becomes lighter and more translucent as it approaches the foreground,\u201d said Tieh.
